Details

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was approved in Russia in 2009 for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and neurasthenia. Selank extends tuftsin, a naturally occurring tetrapeptide from human IgG, with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide that stabilizes the molecule against enzymatic degradation. The result is a peptide that bridges the immune and nervous systems. Selank retains tuftsin's immunomodulatory properties while gaining pronounced anxiolytic, nootropic, and neuroprotective activity. It modulates GABAergic neurotransmission, normalizes serotonin and dopamine signaling, upregulates BDNF, and inhibits enkephalin-degrading enzymes. Selank is not a benzodiazepine. It does not bind GABA-A receptors or force inhibitory signaling. Instead, it alters expression of genes encoding GABA receptor subunits and transporters, adjusting the brain's inhibitory architecture at the transcriptional level. Every conventional anxiolytic forces a tradeoff. Benzodiazepines reduce anxiety but impair memory and create dependence. SSRIs take weeks and carry sexual dysfunction and emotional blunting. Administer via subcutaneous injection using a 27-31 gauge insulin syringe. Inject into the abdomen, upper arm, or thigh. Rotate injection sites. Standard protocol involves 10-21 day cycles. Anxiolytic effects may begin within 1-3 days. Store refrigerated at 36 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
