Telomeres shorten with every cell division. When they reach a critical length, the cell stops dividing and enters senescence. Epitalon induces telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds telomeric DNA. Human somatic cell studies demonstrated measurable telomere elongation. In elderly cohorts at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation, Epitalon also restored nighttime melatonin peaks that had declined with age.
